8th Salamanca Chess Festival 2025 R4: Pranav Venkatesh maintains his sole lead

The reigning World Junior 2025 champion, GM Pranav Venkatesh won a back and forth battle in the fourth round of 8th Salamanca Chess Festival 2025. Pranav got a substantial advantage in the middlegame. However, his opponent, WGM Nadya Toncheva (BUL) kept fighting and getting herself back in the game. Eventually, she made the final mistake and lost. The Latin America legend, GM Julio Granda (PER) scored his first win of the event against IM Sabrina Vega Gutierrez (ESP). Former World Champion, GM Ruslan Ponomariov (UKR) defeated IM Sara Khadem (ESP) to stay a half point behind the sole leader at 3/4. Three rounds of Rapid games will be played today. The tournament is organized by Universidad de Salamanca at Centro Internacional del Español - Edificio Banco de España (Salamanca), the 'Cradle of Modern Chess' in Salamanca, Spain.

Format

The tournament will be held in a six-player double round-robin format. The time control will be 30 minutes + 5 seconds increment and it will be rapid rating event.

Schedule

Round 1-3 will be played on 22nd October at 4 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. local time, 7:30 p.m., 9 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. IST. On Thursday 23rd October, there will be only one game. Round 4 will take place at 12:30 p.m. local time, 4 p.m. IST. Round 5-7 will take place on 25th October at 4 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. local time, 7:30 p.m., 9 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. IST. Round 8-10 will be held on 26th October at 4 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. local time, 7:30 p.m., 9 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. IST.
