Arjun Erigaisi returns to World #4, Praggnanandhaa moves to #7 and Aravindh Chithambaram storms into #11
Arjun Erigaisi returned to World no.4 in April FIDE Rating list 2025. R Praggnanandhaa gained only 0.2 Elo rating points at Prague International Chess Festival 2025 Masters. It moved him up by one place to number seven from eight. Aravindh Chithambaram's stellar triumph of Prague Masters 2025 and two wins at Bundesliga earned him 17.5 Elo rating points. It propelled him from 22 to 11 which is also his career highest ranking. Pentala Harikrishna added 2.8 Elo rating points at Bundesliga and by winning Czech Extraliga. He is now World no.29. Seven Indians are still in top 30. Harika Dronavalli increased her rating by 5 points at FIDE Nicosia GP. She also finished third there and moved to World no.15 from 16. Photo: Shahid Ahmed
Three Indians in World top 10
Currently there are three Indians in World top 10, same as last month. However, that day is not so far when we will have four in top ten. GM Aravindh Chithambaram gained 17.5 Elo rating points to take his rating to 2749 and become World no.11. It is career high ranking. R Praggnanandhaa is also at his career best rank of World no.7. Arjun Erigaisi returned to World no.4.
Women: Humpy still at World no.6, Harika World no.15
Four Indian women are in top 20. They are - GM Koneru Humpy, World no.6, GM Harika Dronavalli, World no.15, GM R Vaishali, World no.16 and IM Divya Deshmukh, World no.20 among women. Harika gained 5 Elo rating points at FIDE Nicosia GP where she finished third. Currently, there are nine Indians among the top 100 women.
Countries
India retains the no.2 position in April 2025 FIDE Rating list in terms of average rating of top ten players in the Open, only 5 Elo rating points behind the USA. The gap got reduced to 5 in April 2025 FIDE Rating list.
