Gaurang Bagwe wins Federal Bank presents 2nd Tarabai Shinde Rapid Rating Open 2024
FM Gaurang Bagwe and Shrayan Majumder scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 each at Federal Bank presents 2nd Tarabai Shinde Rapid Rating Open 2024. Gaurang won the tournament on tie-breaks, Shrayan secured second place. Five players - IM Mohammad Nubairshah Shaikh, Rushikesh Kabnurakar, Aakash Sharadchandra Dalvi, IM Ramnathan Balasubramaniam and Gaurang Bhandari scored 8/9 each. They were placed third to seventh respectively. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹250000. The top three prizes were ₹20000, ₹15000 and ₹10000 along with a trophy each respectively. The one-day rapid rating tournament was organized by Mr. Nandakumar TV on 11th August 2024 at Agri Koli Sanskriti Bhavan in Nerul, Maharashtra. Gaurang's second Rapid Rating triumph of the month
FM Gaurang Bagwe made a fantastic start by winning eight games in-a-row. IM Mohammad Nubairshah Shaikh and Shrayan Majumder were the only pursuers trailing by a half point at 7.5/8 each. Gaurang drew with Nubairshah to win the tournament, Nubairshah finished third. FM Mithil Ajgaonkar lost to Shrayan. Thus Shrayan finished second. Earlier in August, Gaurang won Shobhawat Rapid Rating Open 2024 on 4th August. After this, he won Gold in Under-18 Open Rapid and Silver in Under-18 Open Blitz at Commonwealth Championships 2024 which will be mentioned in detail later in a separate report.

A total of 673 players including two IMs took part from all over the country and one from the USA in this one-day nine round Rapid Rating Open tournament. It was organized by Mr. Nandakumar T V at Agri Koli Sanskriti Bhavan in Nerul, Maharashtra on 11th August 2024. The time control of the event was 15 minutes + 5 seconds increment per move.
