Gukesh - Batsiashvili, Round 3
White's position might look slightly uncomfortable. The reason behind that is Black's pieces are imposing on the king. 29...Rc2 would have maintained the pressure. However, 29...Rd6 allowed White to alleviate it by exchanging the rooks. 30.Rxc3 Nxc3 31.Rc1 Nb5 is a further mistake as 32.Rc4 forces the exchange of the rooks Rd1+ 33.Kf2 Rd4 is the only way to avoid losing material. Gukesh won the game in another twelve moves.
A total of 137 players including 21 GMs, 12 IMs, a WGM and 2 WIMs are taking part from 25 countries across the world in Group A. The tournament is organized by Menorca Chess Association from 20th to 24th April 2022 at Hotel Princesa Playa, Menorca, Spain. The seven-round Swiss league tournament has a time control of 90 minutes each with 30 seconds increment from move no. 1.
